"The tailor’s shop is nestled in a shadowed alley of the Brume. It seems ordinary enough, save for the easily distractible tailor’s assistant. The rumors say he’s harmless, but often you’ll find his eyes darting just over your shoulder. His work speaks for itself, though. You won’t find a tidier hand-sewn backstitch in all of Ishgard."

The Story So Far...

In the daylight hours, Rayn is a humble tailor’s assistant. When night falls, his work takes on a different nature. Souls and fabric share more in common than most realize. Both can be cut or torn and without proper care, they can begin to unravel. Both can also be given new life with careful hands and the right knowledge. Restless souls croon, and Rayn listens. In the back alleys of the Brume, these transactions take place in whispers. In secret.A score to settle? Easy.A lingering spirit protectively bound into an enchanted garment for a loved one? Stunning.A lost soul needing someone to hear their last words? No problem.Rayn is a craftsman in a world that discards the ripped and the torn and the dead alike. If he must stitch together a few lost souls to make ends meet, well that’s just business.

Early Life : A Haunting of Haukke ManorRayn was nothing more than a lost child in the woods. His earliest memories are fragmented. An Ixali raid separated him from the rest of his family and tribe in the Black Shroud. A head injury had him stumbling around the gnarled roots and imposing trunks of the Shroud’s dense forest for days. Fate, or misfortune, delivered him into the hands of Lady Amandine’s head retainer, Ms. Emalaine Dauchengne. Emalaine, a champion for lost causes, saw something worth saving in the half-dead child. She took Rayn into the manor as a ward and apprentice.During this time, Rayn discovered his knack for music. He initially observed an older gentleman playing the piano. Later, after curfew, Rayn snuck back into the music room to try to replicate what he heard. The older gentlemen continued to frequent the manor and picked up on Rayn’s natural ear and talent for music. He began to favor Rayn, and taught him how to read sheet music.Rayn’s playing later caught the attention of Lady Amandine. She began to frequently ask for him to play for her at night and would provide more sheet music and “lessons”. Unbeknownst to him, she was subtly teaching him how to ease the Manor’s restless spirits by channeling necromancy through his music. For years, he lived in quiet servitude, witnessing the slow unraveling of House Dartancours. He mended clothes and continued to play for Lady Amandine and watched as she further retreated behind gilded masks and shadowed rooms. Her despair deepened as her beauty faded. He heard the whispers of forbidden promises, saw the strange visitors who came in the dead of night and tried to convince Ms. Emalaine that they needed to leave the manor. By the time he realized the full truth of Lady Amandine’s void pact, it was too late. The night the manor fell into darkness, he tried to flee. His adoptive mother’s kind heart and inability to deem any soul a lost cause became the shackles that bound her to Haukke Manor’s fate. She died screaming for Rayn to run.In his adrenaline-shocked grief, he called upon the void to save his adoptive mother’s lost soul. The void unfortunately answered, but it was not a call Rayn was ready to take. The price for such magic was too great. It left him injured, half delirious, and completely at the mercy of Lady Amadine. It was then that Kaska crashed into Rayn’s life in what can only be described as a perfect example of Fate’s comedic timing. Kaska had been passing through the Twelveswood on her way to Ishgard to find work accompanying the Dragonsong War. While staying in Gridania, she picked up a hunt contract put out by the Twin Adders for Haukke Manor. The bloodhunter mercenary kicked down Haukke Manor’s doors and barrelled into the role Rayn’s knight in blood-staine armor, preventing him from becoming another lost soul bound to the Manor. That unfortunately would not be the end of Haukke Manor’s story for Rayn. As Rayn escaped with Kaska into the woods, body and mind stained with horrors, the void followed. Now in Ishgard, Rayn has built a new life as an unassuming tailor. The ghosts of his past figuratively remain at his side.Sometimes as a guide.Sometimes as burdens.Always as reminders. His injured eye now allows him to perceive the aura of restless souls who are still clinging to the mortal plane.
